I read Vince Powell's article with much interest. The reason is I have three grandchildren, 17, 14 and 11.
All of them really enjoy the older repeat comedies such as Dad's Army while my husband and I try to catch as many of the repeats as possible.
Modern comedies that are clean and funny are rare. There is usually some violence, lavatory humour, foul language and sexual suggestion.
Mr Powell is speaking much sense. Bring back the comedy writers from their enforced retirement, including the lovely Carla Lane.
Let's have a good laugh once again, even if it is a silly comedy.
I have travelled on buses and heard school children saying how funny Dad's Army is.
I am sure the popularity of the repeats of the older comedies more than speaks for itself.
