Although I agree in principle with Vince Powell (January 14), he must not blame America for the smut that passes for comedy on TV these days.

The most awful TV so-called comedy show, which I watched for ten minutes, is British.

It's crude and totally unfunny (unless you have no class at all).

I refer, of course, to The Royle Family, which seems to consist of some couch potato passing wind at every opportunity.

Another appalling specimen must be Dinnerladies (talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel) and, as far as Men Behaving Badly is concerned, it should be renamed Prats Behaving Like Prats.

The old Brit shows were great, I agree, and many wish to view them.

UK Gold now seems totally brainwashed by Victor Meldrew and the equally boring Del Boy.

Comedy used to be quite good a few years ago with Get Some In (I was in four episodes of that).

In my eyes, nothing compares to Dad's Army and Sorry. Now it's all Meldrew and Mandela House.
