A mention in The Argus encouraged me to visit the Brighthelm Centre for a debate on the Euro on January 10.

A well-informed, political and technical debate opening up a vast can of worms and extending into question time ensued.

Then I had a thought: "Mr Chairman, there are 26 here tonight in a city of 260,000 who are probably facing a referendum that will soon be slid through."

The chairman brought the meeting to order. I was told a referendum couldn't just be slid through.

The Government should govern. It has better access to the facts. Otherwise, why bother to elect it? Referenda can be manipulated.

In today's plastic credit card-world, coinage is becoming redundant. No nation can remain isolated - not even Switzerland.
