The Bible says: "The meek shall inherit the earth." Not if Brighton and Hove City Council has anything to do with it.

In its determination to push through the proposed planning application for the development of the Brighton Station site, it has steamrollered valid objections and rational argument from North Laine residents.

"Consultation" now has a new meaning: A method by which the council identifies potential trouble-makers and tries to discredit them, rather than listen to genuine concerns.

Voters: Don't be meek. Speak out. Write to the council, attend council meetings, write to The Argus and the North Laine Runner.

The proposed development will destroy our whole way of life in the North Laine. The plan will affect every resident and will bring no benefits.

There will be traffic congestion and pollution on a scale which we have never seen before, as a result of thousands of mobile shoppers who will drive their cars into our tiny conservation area.

Don't let the council get away with it.

-Lesley-Anne Brennan, North Laine resident
