Sussex have appointed Ian Waring to the new post of corporate development manager following 14 years in charge of the county's youth development.

He will work alongside Neil Lenham, who has wider responsibilities in the marketing department following the departure of business manager Russell Taylor last month. Waring's old job has gone to Steve Peyman.

Waring's brief will also include exploring sources of funding for the ground improvements planned for Hove.

Chairman Don Trangmar said: "Ian has been outstanding in youth development for 14 years but he needed a new challenge and he's now got it.

"The streamlined administration structure we have in place will take us forward. We haven't taken the easy route, these are internal appointments which make best use of the undoubted talent we have at Sussex."

Both Waring and Lenham were overlooked for the post of chief executive which Trangmar still hopes to fill in time for the start of the new season.

More applicants will be interviewed in the next fortnight as the long-running search for David Gilbert's successor continues.
