Further to my previous correspondence (Letters, December 19), a plea for research into modern dentistry.

I want to know if all dentists use disposable injection needles and protective goggles when necessary.

Do all dentists use blue filters or blue bulbs for their curing lights?

Hopefully, we have all moved on since I learned, at a medical lecture, that UV setting lights should be used for only one minute.

In reply to M Boyask (Letters, December 21), with his greater knowledge of dental theory, I have much experiential learning gleaned from being on the receiving end of dental methods.

Even so, I can still be gulled into parting with my savings, against my better judgement, for undesirable work.

Having often been left to pick up the pieces in trying to recover my health, I have relied upon the healing power of prayer and natural remedies to enhance my faith.

"More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of" - so wrote that great poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, in Morte d'Arthur.

Perhaps, one day, our society will exchange its unquestioning allegiance to science and the Golden Calf for wisdom and an ethical form of conduct.
