I have to express my concern for residents of Bevendean and the possible loss of the White Admiral pub to housing (The Argus, January 14).

Why do planners and developes always think they know what's best?

Bevendean is a little "town" in its own right and a community pub is what keeps local people talking and thinking together.

More housing or, indeed, any development other than community based would be a disaster.

There are very few facilities to cope with the amount of people who already live there.

The Coombe Road area lost its community local to a psychedelic student haunt loud enough to give those who like a traditional local a migraine.

So no quiet drink there anymore. Hollingdean, Coldean, Hollingbury - all have their own local.

To take a precious local commodity away, as Peter Mack stated, will cause more drink-driving.

Stop taking the life out of communities. After all the flooding Bevendean has suffered, I'm sure they would join me in saying the only liquid they want to see flowing in future is drinkable.
