Given all the problems facing this country, it may come as a relief to see our showboating Prime Minister has returned to these shores.

I am astounded he feels the need to go on a globe-trotting trip when one only has to walk through the streets of Brighton and Hove to see the real issues we face.

The Government claims there are only about 500 homeless people nationwide, yet why do I pass at least six people clearly living rough on my way home from Brighton station every night? The Government claimed there was only 24 hours to save the NHS, yet the system is in crisis and seems to be far worse than under the previous administration.

The Government claimed the problems with the transport sytem, in particular the trains, are all down to the Conservatives, yet after almost five years of Labour government, the only improvement I have seen is that South Central Trains have painted some of its decrepit and inevitably late-running carriages in a new livery.

Isn't it time Mr Blair and his Cabinet saw these issues, faced by every person in this city, and came up with some solutions of substance, rather than the constant spin which is pumped out day after day?
