Lewes boss Jimmy Quinn is desperate for a home draw after his side beat Kidsgrove Athletic 2-0 to move into the last 16 of the FA Vase.

Goals from Chris Dicker and Ross Venables made the long trip to Stoke worthwhile.

But Quinn said: "We want a home draw now. It is a great competition and everyone wants to win it but it costs a fortune putting the players up in a hotel the night before the game. Really you need a home draw, otherwise it is an expense."

Rooks were expecting a tough time against the North West Counties League title chasers who reached the semi-finals three years ago.

Dicker opened the scoring with a 20-yard effort on four minutes and, having sustained a spell of heavy Kidsgrove pressure at the start of the second half, Lewes sealed victory when Venables turned in Cameron Johnson's shot midway through the second half.

Quinn said: "It is a fantastic win. We are well pleased to be in the next round.

"It is more than just being a good football team when you come to places like this.

"We worked hard, dealt with the physical side of things, didn't react and overall did ever so well.

"I was really hoping we could get a draw and take them back to our place. This is a fantastic result."

Despite victory, Quinn is playing down Lewes' chances in the competition.

"There is still a long way to go and the next game is the only one that matters.

"I have said all along I don't think we are strong enough and we don't have a big enough squad to win it and I still believe that. We will just have to see what happens."
