Vandals threw bricks through the windows of The Argus offices in Worthing last night.
Staff arrived today to discover four windows at the back of the building in Chapel Road had been smashed.
PC Darren Pickering said: "The police are disgusted about the criminal damage to this property.
"There are two screwdriver marks and bricks have been thrown through the windows.
"There have been a lot of break-ins in the area lately."
Nothing was stolen but staff noticed the safe had been moved slightly.
A scenes-of-crime officer said: "My initial reaction is that this is malicious damage."
