Two council officers who swapped jobs for a week will share their experiences with TV viewers tonight.
Alison Redman works for Wealden District Council as a waste management officer. Until recently, Shane Clarke worked for Lambeth Council in South London in the same role.
The pair traded places in October and the results will be screened as part of a series on job swaps.
Mrs Redman, 31, of Ashford Road, Brighton, said: "Lambeth has different problems to us, especially with drug-related litter. There were places we couldn't walk because of the needles on the ground.
"Because my district is mainly rural, it is spread out more. We have some problems with abandoned cars but they have cars just left at traffic lights."
Mrs Redman said good aspects of the swap included working as part of a large team and getting out from behind a desk.
But she was surprised at the size of Lambeth's litter problem.
She said: "I think the frustrating part would be trying to make a difference there. We try to work to improve the environment and in Wealden you see the realities of that."
Mrs Redman said she quickly grew used to the cameras and enjoyed the buzz of working in London.
She works mainly on recycling schemes from her office in Crowborough.
Turning the Tables is on BBC2 at 7.30pm.
