I was interested to read the article regarding quokkas (January 25) because I had the opportunity to see these animals in their natural state recently.
My wife and I had a holiday in Australia for three weeks. We visited relations, staying with my sister and her husband in Perth.
We had a chance to visit Rottnest Island to see the quokkas. It is a small island, some three miles from Fremantle.
My niece is resident there because her husband looks after the pines supplied to the island.
No cars are allowed except service vehicles for the island and all visitors have to return to the mainland at the end of the day.
The quokkas sleep all day and come down from the trees in the evening to walk around.
