Brighton maintained second place with a hard-earned 2-1 win away to Folkestone.
The result keeps Brighton a point behind leaders Holcombe, who won 5-0 at Horsham.
Dave Delea gave Brighton a first-half lead with a scrappy goal but Folkestone levelled before the interval. The winner came in the second half through Richard Cooke.
Brighton skipper Carlo Missirian said: "It was a very difficult pitch to play on. They came out with a game plan to spoil anything we did and they played very well.
"As close as it was, though, we had most of the game."
It was goalless at half time between Horsham and Holcombe but the leaders ran amok in the second half.
Horsham goalkeeper Neil Burlinson said: "The result might be a bit harsh as they scored a couple of late goals, but with the amount of chances they had it was fair enough."
Worthing made it two wins on the trot with an impressive 2-0 success at home to Blackheath.
Worthing took the lead when Matt Ansell switched a short corner to Rex Fuller, who made no mistake. Ten minutes into the second half skipper Simon Holloway smashed home a second to put Worthing in control.
