Hastings rider Peter Tadros is the toast of Sussex after winning the Les Jarvis Trophy for the best overall rider in GS Stella's two open time trials.
Saturday's 11-mile event from Storrington to Whiteways Lodge and back included the tough climb of Houghton Hill and was won by professional star Harry Lodge (Salisbury RC).
Lodge clocked 26min.49sec. Tadros (Interbike RT) was second in 27min.00sec, while Tim Bayley (Time Trial UK) was third with 27min.16sec. Sussex club members Dave Dent (GS Stella) and James Dear (Eastbourne Rovers) were fourth and fifth in 27min.25sec and 27min. 27sec.
The following day's rain-soaked 26-mile event went via Houghton Hill, Fontwell, Arundel, Patching, Findon and back to Storrington. Tadros produced a storming ride to win in 59min. 42sec.
Jason White (JD Cycles) was runner-up in 1hr.0min. 1sec and Dent was third with 1hr.0min 14sec. Dear was fourth in 1hr.0m.18s and Lodge fifth in 1hr.0m 38sec.
GS Stella (Dent, Andy Fayne, John Limpus) won the team event.
Tadros was the overall winner in 1hr.26min.42sec while Lodge finished second in 1hr. 27min.27sec. Dent was third with 1hr 27min 39sec.
Dear (1hr.27min.45sec) finished fourth overall while Sussex 12-hour champion Dave Shepherd (Rother Valley) placed tenth in 1hr. 31min.56sec.
The Brighton Mitre trio of Tristan Court, Tony Richardson and Andy Green were second in the overall team race won by Portsmouth.
Tadros said: "It was a good quality field and I was delighted to win overall. I had a sleepless night on Saturday, wondering if I could make up my 11 seconds deficit on Lodge, but once I started I felt good."
Central Sussex CC's 25-mile event on Sunday starts from Ashurst village hall at 9am. The field includes Dave Dent and James Dear while Mark Jones (GS Stella) should figure if he has recovered from a cold.
Promoter Ken Atkins said: "Ten of the riders have beaten 54 minutes for 25-miles, although they did that later in the season, it isn't so easy to predict form at this time of year."
