An Eastbourne man was impaled on a spring as he rolled over in bed and had to be rescued by firefighters.
Firefighters were called to his home in Seaside this morning after an ambulance crew failed to free him.
Sub Officer Kevin Sharpe said: "The bed was quite old and the spring had worked its way through the mattress. When he rolled over it got stuck in his side.
"We had to cut through the mattress to release him."
The man was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital.
