A woman and her two children were asleep in their beds when arsonists attacked.
A camper van parked on the lawn of the family's house in Ringmer Road, Moulsecoomb, Brighton, was the first target.
A taxi driver raised the alarm at 4am and firefighters prevented serious damage.
An hour later, police investigating the first attack spotted flames in the wooden porch by the front door. An officer put out the blaze.
The mother and children were uninjured.
