Hooker Rob Lawrence is in line for an England rugby under-18s final trial place.
The 17-year-old from Chichester has taken part in qualifying sessions for two squads for players under-18 on September 1 and January 1.
Lawrence is involved in a second and final qualifier for both at Castlecroft near Wolverhampton tomorrow.
He said: "I have spoken to national coaches and from what they tell me I think I will be No.1 hooker for the January 1 squad. I thought the trials went very well and I hope I can seal a place in one of them.
"The selectors felt I wasn't big enough for the older squad when the trials started a few weeks ago and, although I've been in the gym and put on three-and-a-half pounds, I don't think it'll be enough. I can't put on a stone in a fortnight. The best I can expect is to be on stand-by for the older squad. All I want is a cap!"
The Chichester High pupil travelled to Castlecroft for the older squad trial and Rickmansworth for the younger one.
He said: "I was really tired at the end of it. I was in the London and South team that beat the North 10-8 in Castlecroft and I took two scrums against the head with England hooker Peter Allen in the opposing team."
Mike Power (Horsham) missed selection for this week's England under-16s training week at Cosford after attending trials.
