We would like to pay tribute to Roy Woodhouse, of Hangleton Road, Hove.
For the past 16 years, he has organised a different monthly walk of between six and eight miles, with a pub or picnic stop half way, for members of the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
He is now in his 80s and is hoping to pass on the map and compass to someone else, although I am sure he will continue to walk whenever he can.
The time, thought and work involved in planning these walks is voluntarily.
They are made more interesting by Roy's knowledge of geology and local history, while his wife, Joan, educates us on the names of flowers, birds and trees.
They never know how many people are likely to turn up - it might be as few as eight or as many as 30.
However, Roy has certainly given great service and enjoyment to a lot of people over the years.
