My sympathies are with the burglar who was sent one of the police's fake Valentine cards (The Argus, February 16).
These cards were not only lacking in poetry but also seemed dubious both legally and tactically.
If the police have evidence someone is breaking the law, they should arrest that person. If they have no evidence, they have no right to threaten the person with "a ride in a police car" and "a cosy cell".
Tactically, the cards merely tip off suspects they are being watched. They are a waste of police resources and a slightly sinister development.
