A major police investigation was launched today after a woman's body was found in a flat.
Detectives and uniformed officers were called to the apartment in Milner flats in Kingswood Street, Brighton, shortly after 7am.
They were alerted by paramedics who had arrived at the scene minutes earlier and became suspicious.
The woman had an injury to the head but the cause of death was not yet known.
A Home Office pathologist was carrying out a post mortem examination this afternoon.
Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Moore, heading the inquiry, said: "We are treating this as suspicious until the cause of death has been established."
Officers carried out flat-to-flat inquiries in the block and forensic experts were examining the scene.
Three men at the address, aged 29, 30 and 31, were arrested and taken to nearby John Street police station for questioning.
The identity of the dead woman, who was middle-aged, was not being released until relatives had been told.
