A teenager flagged down a fire engine after putting his hand through a glass door.
The boy and his friend stopped a fire crew on Ditchling Rise in Brighton on Saturday morning after the teenager lacerated his hand and fingers.
He injured himself trying to stop his front door from shutting in the wind, but his hand went through the glass.
Leading firefighter Phil Dobson said: "He was quite badly cut. He was outside bringing in the milk, I think, and the wind caught the door."
The boy was given first-aid at the scene by firefighters until an ambulance arrived and took him to hospital.
