When the Korean car firm Daewoo pulled the plug on its Worthing operation, we suggested what the reaction of the borough council should be.
The firm supplied the mayoral car free and our reaction was that this should be handed straight back to Daewoo in protest against the shabby way in which it had treated many staff.
Councillors refused to bow to pressure and kept the car but now the decision has been made for them. Daewoo wants it back and has also offered to sell it to Worthing at a price which is far too high.
Now the cash-strapped council is having to spend £395 a month on hiring a car for the mayor just at a time when council tax bills are soaring.
Normally we don't like saying we told you so but we can't resist it in the case of this smug and arrogant council.
Councillors had better make sure that if they are forced in the future to buy a mayoral limousine, it isn't a Daewoo.
