When plans were first revealed to move the Nigel Porter Breast Care Unit from Brighton to Haywards Heath, The Argus highlighted a primary objection.
This was the time and expense it would take many people to get there, especially if they used public transport.
Now a report commissioned by the Friends of the Nigel Porter Unit gives factual backing to our claim.
The unit is at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton which is served by buses every two minutes through the flat-fare system of £2 operated by Brighton and Hove Buses from all over the city.
Take a journey from the city to the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and how do you get there? The answer is by at least three buses or by a train and probably two buses.
The cost by train or bus is likely to be two or three times as much and the journey will take at least twice as long.
Even those going by car will find the journey costs more and takes longer, especially if there is congestion on the roads.
Although car ownership is increasing, there are still thousands of people without their own transport in Sussex, especially in Brighton and Hove.
Their transport needs must be considered in any decision about whether to move this much-loved unit.
