For nearly 40 years, I tried to convince pupils there were other adjectives besides "nice".

Whether or not I succeeded, it is regretfully true that this overworked and misused adjective has been replaced by "fantastic".

If radio and television presenters put 80p in the box every time they used the word, there would be no need for TV licences.
