The bottle bank in Lustrells Vale is going to be taken away on March 4.
Lots of elderly people live in this area who are not too good on their feet and, like us, unable to drive a car any more.
But we do like to have a drink now and then. Somehow or other, bottles also need to be thrown away.
The nearest bottle bank will be in the Saltdean park, far too far for some of us to walk to.
The other morning, just after 8am, I took an empty bottle to the bank on the way to get the daily paper.
It was only one bottle and I did not throw it in with all my force. There was a loud shriek from a young woman above the launderette.
How dare I throw a bottle in before 8.30am? I might have woken her baby. She kept on shouting but, being quite a bit older than her, I just let her carry on.
Funnily enough, that afternoon, some of the ladies and I had a get-together, quite a few of whom live in the flats near the bottlebank.
Most of them had no objection to the bank, also finding it very useful.
They also told me that young woman has had a go at lots of people. When she moved into her flat, the bottle bank was already there.
It has been for quite a few years. Can anything be done about it?
