I read the three letters commenting on the South Downs boundary (Letters, February 26) and, as a comparative newcomer to Brighton and Hove, found Richard Allden's viewpoint offensive.
My family and I came to live here because we adore the historical architecture, the continental atmosphere, the friendly charm and helpfulness of the people, the sea, the Downs and the beauty of the not-so-attractive areas balanced by their charming, offbeat character.
That may answer the question "what drives so many people into this city?"
I suspect Mr Allden was not born here since we find true Brightonians generous with their city, wishing to share all it has to offer.
His suggestion that we may finish up with a vast immigrant population is exactly what Brighton and Hove already has and makes such a beautiful tapestry of people.
By all means save the Downs but don't try to make "our city" exclusive - it just wouldn't work.
