As a resident of Ferring village for slightly more than 12 months (but with family here for the past ten years), I am somewhat sad to hear the residents' association is under threat of closure (April 3).
However, I cannot say I am totally surprised. The demographics of the village are changing, with more and more families (of which we are one) and younger people moving in.
Many of us are working parents. We barely have time to watch the news, never mind read hectoring letters on the village noticeboard.
Could the lack of volunteers be exacerbated by chairman Trevor Hill's tone?
Rightly or wrongly, is there a perception of the residents' association as a cliquey bunch of busy-bodies with too much time on their hands?
Perhaps the time has come to change this and for the association committee to better reflect the village population as a whole?
Tell us about the benefits of being on the committee, Mr Hill.
Explain to us what is involved and how much time we would need to dedicate to the role. Maybe then you will find the volunteers you seek.
