Goalkeeper Chris Bristow helped England win a silver medal in the Four Nations Under-16s internationals in Manchester.
The 16-year-old from Worthing helped his country beat Germany 4-3 and draw 0-0 with Spain in a round-robin before losing 3-0 to Holland in the final.
The Worthing High pupil said: "The coaches told me I had a good tournament and I felt I did too. I made some big saves. It is useful to put on my CV.
"Germany and Holland were very strong, particularly Holland.
"We played the Dutch in the round-robin, when I was rested, and it was a 2-2 draw. I think they learned a few things about us from that game."
Bristow now hopes to secure a European Youth Trophy place in Rotterdam in July.
He said: "It is intended to replace five of England's Four Nations squad but I believe my chances are quite high of surviving, although nothing can be guaranteed."
