Most people think smoothie TV presenter Des Lynam should shave off his trademark moustache, a poll claimed today.
Shaving company Gillette has offered Sussex star Lynam an "undisclosed sum" to be donated to charity if he removes it hours before the first World Cup match between England and Sweden on June 2.
If he accepts the offer, Lynam's new look would then be shown for the first time on ITV sport when he fronts the channel's World Cup coverage.
The poll by BMRB International for Gillette showed 67 per cent of those interviewed thought Lynam should agree.
Steve Clarke of Gillette UK said: "Des is a television legend and we all love him.
"His presentation style apart, he is most famous for his moustache but this research shows the new generation of armchair football fans might prefer an even smoother Des Lynam for 2002."
