Albion chief Peter Taylor will have more key talks with chairman Dick Knight next week in a bid to resolve his future.

It follows a "positive meeting" yesterday on a range of issues, topped by the budget Taylor will be given for Division One next season.

A three-year contract offered when he took charge in October remains on the table unsigned.

Taylor had discussions with Knight and the Board a fortnight ago, prior to the goalless draw against Swindon at Withdean which sealed the Second Division championship for the Seagulls.

That meeting resolved his fears over training facilities, but the playing budget is still a stumbling block and cannot be finalised while the ITV Digital dispute rumbles on.

Taylor sat down with Knight for two hours yesterday morning. He revealed: "I've had a good, positive meeting with Dick and we are talking again on Monday.

"We haven't sorted out everything, which is impossible to do. The budget is still a bit unclear at the moment, but we spoke about a lot of things like how the players have performed this year and how things can be improved."

Taylor is still being linked with the vacant post at First Division Preston. They have drawn up a shortlist of five candidates, including former Scotland coach Craig Brown and caretaker Kelham O'Hanlon.

Taylor's name was first put in the frame for the Deepdale job when David Moyes departed to Everton, but O'Hanlon was handed control for the rest of the season.

"I cannot do anything about my name being linked with anything," he said. "I've got no comment to make."

Taylor has also been linked with Albion's arch rivals Crystal Palace, where he starred as a player in the mid Seventies.

Albion's reserves will hand Palace the Avon Insurance Combination League title if they win or draw their final fixture against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road today (2pm). Rangers need a victory to pip Palace for top spot.
