A sweep to catch children dodging school in an East Sussex town has been hailed a success.
More than 25 children were questioned by police and East Sussex County Council education welfare officers in St Leonards and ten were returned to schools.
Teams targeted popular meeting places for youngsters in the town centre and shopping malls.
Council member for education Rupert Simmons said: "The parents of any young person found out of school without valid reason are contacted by our education welfare service and the schools are also notified of all pupils stopped and questioned.
"Where necessary, pupils are returned to school using police powers under the Crime and Disorder Act."
The sweep, on Monday, was one of a number across the county which take place throughout the academic year.
Regular patrols are also carried out by education welfare and school liaison officers.
