A dog walker attacked a girl after telling her off for throwing stones.
The 12-year-old and her friends were aiming pebbles at a mound of rubble at the end of Beech Road in Roffey, Horsham, when a man in his 50s shouted at her.
He put his hands round her neck, leaving it sore and slightly marked.
Afterwards he walked off with his black Labrador down Beech Road.
Police are trying to trace the man, who is white and was wearing a light brown baseball cap, grey trousers and a green, short-sleeved combat-type jacket. The dog was muzzled.
