When I read the review of Russell Watson's concert at the Brighton Centre, I really wondered if I had been at the same performance.
I fully acknowledge Russell is not a "pure" opera singer but he has brought music from opera to the masses.
Certainly, I have benefited from it and have thoroughly enjoyed both his CDs and look forward eagerly to the third.
I wonder if Mike Howard had researched the person he was going to see? It was a great evening and, even in the vast expanse of the centre, Russell's voice carried extremely well.
For entertainment value, it was a good night out.
I fully accept it may not have been ideal for true opera followers but I assume they would have made their own choice before buying tickets.
However, I agree Russell's "chat" needs to improve and the video clips were too long and did not feel part of the show.
I think I will apply to review visiting shows because I believe I would at least have an objective view.
I hope Russell returns to Brighton soon.
