Pensioner Patricia Mynott was suffering from shock when a burglar armed with a knife entered her seafront home in Brighton.
But she still had the savvy to use her artistic talent to draw a picture of the man responsible on the back of an envelope.
The likeness was good enough for police to be able to identify Stephen Lawson from Horton Road in Hollingdean as the burglar.
Thanks to her evidence and identification, this villain has now been put behind bars for seven years.
Mrs Mynott, an artist, showed considerable courage, first in escaping from Lawson and then in preparing the drawing.
Her lightning sketch proved that, although she is 72, she is quick on the draw.
