David Beckham insists that England must ignore the scoreline from the other final game in their World Cup group tomorrow.
France's exit with just one point after their defeat by Denmark today has opened up England's potential route to the semi-finals, with Brazil being the toughest challenge they could face before then.
If they do qualify for the second round, either Denmark or Senegal now lie in store, depending on whether Sven-Goran Eriksson's side manage to top their group.
However, Beckham insists that England must only concentrate on securing their own place in the second round, rather than worrying about which team they could face.
"It's important that we concentrate on our game," stressed Beckham again ahead of tomorrow's match against Nigeria.
"It's important to separate ourselves from the other game again because, if we do our job right, then it doesn't matter what happens in the other game."
In Osaka tomorrow, England can make sure of their second round place with a draw against Nigeria.
Even a narrow defeat could take them through if Argentina squeeze past Sweden, although that would be a nerve-wracking scenario depending upon goal difference or even goals scored.
Beckham insisted: "We can't sit back and just try and play for the draw. We have to play our game and we have a great defence so as long as they stay strong and we keep our shape, it shouldn't be a problem."
Whether England top the group or finish second would determine whether they played Denmark on Saturday or had another day's rest before taking on Senegal on Sunday.
Winning the group and facing Senegal could set up a possible quarter-final against Japan, while finishing second and taking on the Danes could put them up against Brazil in the last eight.
Defender Danny Mills stressed: "We want to go out and win the group. Winning is a great habit."
