Billy Taylor is poised to make his first Championship appearance since last July when Sussex face Yorkshire at Headingley tomorrow.
Taylor is included in a squad of 12 and is likely to get the nod ahead of left-armer Jason Lewry.
Taylor, 25, has been in impressive form for the county in one-day cricket this season and coach Peter Moores says he deserves his opportunity.
He said: "The Headingley wicket has a reputation of being a bit uneven. We're training up there today so we will have a look then, but there's a very good chance that Billy will play.
"He's been a lot more aggressive this season, is bowling a yard quicker but he hasn't lost the control he's always had."
With skipper Chris Adams ruled out for another fortnight after undergoing a knee operation on Saturday, Sussex's batting order remains unchanged for the clash with the reigning champions.
Yorkshire have started the season poorly and are bottom of Division One. Like Sussex, they are searching for their first victory.
The Tykes will be without skipper Darren Lehmann, who is playing for Australia. Fellow Aussie Simon Katich, who played for Durham last season, has been recruited as his short-term replacement.
Sussex (from): Montgomerie, Goodwin, Yardy, Cottey, Ambrose, Martin-Jenkins, Innes, Prior, Davis, Kirtley, Taylor, Lewry.
