Sussex endured a torrid first hour at Headingley today, losing their top three for 40 runs on day one of the Championship match against Yorkshire.
Chris Silverwood removed Murray Goodwin and Michael Yardy in quick succession after Steve Kirby had trapped Richard Montgomerie leg before in the second over.
Sussex coach Peter Moores had predicted there would be uneven bounce after looking at the wicket yesterday so Yorkshire's decision to bowl first when acting captain Craig White won the toss did not come as a surprise.
Sussex made a positive enough start, taking 11 off Silverwood's first over before Montgomerie despatched his first ball from Kirby to the mid-wicket boundary.
However, Kirby struck with the fifth ball of his first over although Montgomerie looked unlucky to be given out leg before to a ball which appeared to be bouncing well over his off stump.
Goodwin and Yardy put on 23 without too many alarms before Yardy lost leg stump in the ninth over to a beauty from Silverwood which nipped back sharply off the seam.
Sussex lost their third wicket in the next over when Goodwin was leg before to Silverwood, the ball barely bouncing .
As expected Billy Taylor made his first Championship appearance since last July, replacing the out-of- form Jason Lewry.
