Friends of a 20-year-old man who died on a night club dancefloor held an evening of dance and music in his memory.
Russell Lynn, whose heart stopped because of a condition he had since birth, collapsed and died in front of them at The Event in Brighton.
Friends and family handed over a cheque for more than £1,600, donated at his funeral, to buy a digital heart monitor for the cardiac unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
The fund-raising evening raised another £480 for the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association which helps people with his condition.
Dr Chris Davidson, who treated Russell for the last four years, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the generosity shown by Russell's family and friends during such a stressful time.
"The heart monitor will be extremely helpful in diagnosing irregularities in the heart rhythm, like Russell had."
Russell's mother Carol, 53, of Coldean Lane Brighton said she was touched by the efforts of her son's friends at the Race Hill Inn in Brighton.
She said: "The night went brilliantly. There was lots of dancing to all of Russell's favourite songs.
"I got a bit emotional at the end because it was another way of saying goodbye."
The former Patcham High School pupil, who worked at Focus Do It All in Hove, died on March 26.
