In deciding to boycott Brighton and Hove City Council's planning committee meeting to decide the Albion's Falmer stadium application, the Green Party has shown its true colour - yellow.
Voice of The Argus was spot on. When faced with a big issue, rather than being prepared to argue their case and believing the decision of the committee will not go their way, the Greens ran away.
Politics often means taking tough decisions and getting your hands dirty. By running away, the Greens have abdicated their civic responsibilities as elected councillors and have lost all credibility as caring for the environment.
After all, one would have thought, of all the political parties on the council, it would be the Greens who would speak up for the environment. Instead, it has been left to Labour councillors to suggest schemes that would reduce the impact on the local environment, such as an extension of park-and-ride.
A community stadium at Falmer will boost the local economy and create some 600 jobs for local people. It will be good for the Albion and the city. Voters should remember next May that, in running away, the Greens have demonstrated they care nothing for job creation, the local economy or the environment.
