Captain David Beckham says England will not be satisfied with another glorious World Cup defeat, even if it is against Brazil in the quarter-finals.

Beckham says he now "has the taste" for World Cup success after England's progress to the last eight with Saturday's emphatic 3-0 victory over Denmark and is determined to make the most of this chance.

He insists the young squad are not getting carried away by their progress, believing they are better off being cocooned from the hype back home.

However, he remembers how embarrassed the squad felt four years ago when they were given a reception fit for heroes in England following their valiant penalty shoot-out defeat against Argentina in only the second round.

He said: "You do feel a bit sheepish going back when you've been knocked out early as you've been working for a couple of years in preparation."

Reaching the quarter-finals this time could still be considered an achievement for a young side with such a tough opening group.

Beckham is determined to ensure England make the most of this chance, even though Brazil could yet bar their path to the semi-finals if they can first overcome Belgium today.

He said: "None of us would be satisfied with going out against Brazil. I certainly wouldn't be and I know none of the other players would be either.

"We are a young team but if you look at the tapes after we beat Argentina and then got through the group, there were hardly any celebrations. We were shaking hands and hugging each other but the celebrations stopped there. It was the same after beating Denmark.

"We were happy but we didn't go over the top as we knew that we haven't done anything yet. We definitely wouldn't be happy going out to Brazil."

Beckham confirmed his fitness for Friday's game in Shizuoka despite revealing his troubled left foot was aching during the win against Denmark.
