Korea scored a golden goal to sensationally knock Italy out of the World Cup in Daejeon today.
Ahn Jung-hwan, the golden boy of Korean football, scored the goal as a penalty shootout loomed to book the co-hosts' place in the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history and send the whole of Korea wild.
It was redemption for Ahn who had failed to convert a penalty after just five minutes.
His miss looked all the more glaring when Christian Vieri headed Italy ahead on 18 minutes, a lead the master defenders held for a further 70 minutes.
Gus Hiddink's Korean side, however, refused to lie down and on 88 minutes Seol Ki-hyeon deservedly equalised to send the second-round match into sudden death extra-time.
The drama continued as Italy's Francesco Totti was sent off for a second bookable offence after being adjudged to have dived in the penalty box.
With just four minutes of extra-time left and the capacity crowd bracing itself for penalties, Ahn rose above Paulo Maldini to head home the most important goal in the history of Korean football.
