Former Goldstone governor Jim Marshall can rest assured all is not lost in the Goldstone schools bungled merger fiasco (Letters, June 14).
At a meeting last Wednesday evening (June 12), Brighton and Hove City Council's schools sub-committee was told in no uncertain terms it must not implement its flawed and unworkable plan to run Goldstone school on two separate sites.
The strength of feeling among parents, governors and staff has been instrumental in persuading the council to put the brakes on and serious concerns about the failure to plan, cost and communicate the merger have led the council to demand that the schools sub-committee look at the options again.
In a recent communication with parents, the council told us it remains committed to getting all Goldstone pupils on to one site. The director of education, David Hawker, has also pledged to stick with this until it is properly resolved, which means, as far as parents are concerned, keeping his promise to provide an all-through primary school on one site. Parents are delighted the education people will look again at the best way to do this and trust they will keep us fully informed - something they have failed to do up to now.
