The floodlights were almost redundant at Hove yesterday where Sri Lanka made short work of trouncing West Indies A by seven wickets.
An extra match of 20 overs a side was staged after the main event ended in blazing sunshine before 6pm.
West Indies, chosing to bat on a good pitch, managed just 77, with five ducks as they were bowled out with nearly half of their 50 overs remaining. The innings featured two comical run-outs. Extras was top score with 22.
Pace bowler Charitha Buddika supplied the initial thrust on the way to taking 4-30 and West Indies could not recover after losing half their side for just 27.
Runako Morton (20) and Gareth Breese (16) added 35 in seven overs for the sixth wicket before Breese drove at a wide one from Buddika and was caught behind.
Leg spinner Upul Chandana claimed three of the last four wickets.
Sulieman Benn, Morton and Tino Best all fell leg before, while Jermaine Lawson was needlessly run out.
Sri Lanka lost Avishka Gunawardene for a duck in the first over from the erratic Marlon Black but skipper Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara added 58.
Sangakkara (35) was caught in the gully off Lawson and Mahela Jayawardene bowled by Breese for a duck.
Jayasuriya (23 not) led his side home with a thumping 37 overs in hand.
Scores: West Indies A 77 (C Buddika 4-30, U. Chandana 3-7. Sri Lanka 82-3 (Sangakkara 35).
