Ivor Caplin (Letters, June 17) is suffering from a memory problem. I vividly remember making a long phone call to him, back in the days when he was a Hove councillor, to put the case for the protection of Toad's Hole Valley. I was then the chairman of the neighbouring Benfield Wildlife Group. Ivor was adamant Toad's Hole Valley was a good potential site for a new Albion stadium.

He does have some nerve, though. He was a consistent opponent of the campaign for the South Downs National Park and did not then feel that Toad Hole's Valley's "site of nature conservation interest" (he even had the designation wrong) was a sufficient reason to stop a stadium being built there.
