Brighton and Hove will join 13 other UK cities in a national employee volunteering action day on Friday, July 12.

Participation will be organised by One Brighton and Hove Cares, part of the National Cares Initiative.

Hundreds of staff will be given time off by employers to help community projects, participating in a range of team challenges including redecorating, gardening and conservation work at schools and charities.

Forty challenges need to be completed on the day and 15 companies have already agreed to take part, including Family Assurance, RDC and Lime Marketing.

Kelly Dibbert, from the Brighton and Hove Business Community Partnership, is urging more companies to sign up teams of volunteers to help on the day.

She said: "We have lots of team challenge projects which still need to be done, including revamping the gardens of schools, building building a shelter at the Wood Recycling Project and painting a flat for disadvantaged young people for Hove YMCA. This day will be great fun and make a positive impact on the community and employees.

The more companies that sign up, the greaterwill be difference we can make."
