A disqualified driver stopped by police behind the wheel of a Ford Escort told officers he was on his way to buy drugs.
Kevin Martin, 23, of the Direct Access Hostel, New Steine Mews, Brighton, admitted driving while banned and without insurance when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court.
David Woodings, prosecuting, told the court Martin was stopped by officers who noticed he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Mr Woodings said: "He said he had been driving because he was on his way to Albion Hill to score drugs."
Magistrates adjourned the case until July 15 for sentence.
He was remanded on bail on condition he reports to police three times a week and abides by a night-time curfew.
