Fearless competitors are getting ready to take to the skies, or the sea, in Eastbourne's birdman competition.
The ninth annual event comes to Eastbourne Pier on August 25 and anyone who fancies throwing themselves from a 40ft ramp into the sea is welcome to apply.
Madcap costumes are welcome and as usual the aim of the competition is to fly the greatest distance.
There are two categories this year, Wright and Wacky.
The Wright category is divided into two parts, furthest flight and most innovative design.
The Wacky category is awarded by the pier judges for costume and style.
Pier general manager Graeme Sanderson said: "We're getting geared up for this year's Birdman contest and we've already had lots of inquiries.
"We will have to do it on a first come, first served basis.
"Birdman usually takes place during Airbourne but, due to the time of the high tide and other health and safety issues with the evening fireworks spectacular which marks the end of Airbourne, we have moved the event to the bank holiday weekend instead."
There will be cash prizes for the winners and even the opportunity to be on television.
All entrants must be 18 or over.
