Ivor Caplin overlooks the site earmarked for development at Falmer for the past 15 years being only eight acres (Letters, June 17).

The proposed stadium would need a further ten acres of land designated for the national park and four acres currently occupied by buildings at Brighton University.

It remains questionable whether either is achievable.

As leader of Hove Borough Council in 1996, Ivor commissioned an independent report into possible locations for a football stadium.

Falmer was not shortlisted because, among other criteria, eight acres was too small. Toad's Hole Valley qualified as being an appropriate size for the recommended 39 acres.

Is this the reason why the report was not made public?

Ivor and I have two things in common. We have both been fanatical Albion supporters for more than 40 years and are keen followers of Sussex CCC.

However, I now realise there is a third. We are both Nimbys.

The difference is, my back yard has been cultivated continuously for generations, while Toad's Hole Valley has become a blot on the landscape and a haven for travellers and scramblers.

Isn't it time to get your tractor out, Ivor, and follow the Falmer example to use such land for agricultural purposes?

A stadium will not be built at Toad's Hole Valley, while, as for Falmer, you cannot fit a quart into a pint pot.
