There could hardly be a better site for a new breast care building than Rosaz House in Bristol Gate, Brighton.
It's a large site right opposite the Royal Sussex County Hospital, which houses the existing Nigel Porter unit.
Members of Brighton and Hove planning committee on Wednesday are almost certain to approve the application.
The new building would be far better for women receiving breast treatment than the present centre, which is far too small.
There is an overwhelming public demand for the centre to be at Brighton, as was proved by the huge petition organised by The Argus, which 30,000 people signed.
Health chiefs have still not entirely given up the idea of moving the unit to Haywards Heath.
Not only would this be highly inconvenient for most of the patients who come from the Brighton area but it would also be foolish because they would still have to undergo some of their treatment at Brighton.
If the councillors give their enthusiastic endorsement to the Brighton scheme, health bosses should do the decent thing and go ahead with it.
One of the main original objections to the Brighton location was the lack of a suitable site. That has been overcome through the availability of Rosaz House.
The sooner a decision can be made about committing the future of this unit to Brighton the better.
