Stone the strictly proverbial crows. I am not pro-hunting but J Foster's ludicrous assertion that more than 35 million people in this country want the sport banned (Letters, June 25) cannot go unchallenged.

If the issue was to go to a referendum in England, the Office for National Statistics indicates that the latest figure for those of voting age is 38,717,515.

It is clearly nonsense to suggest that more than 90 per cent of those would vote for hunting's abolition, especially considering the number who hunt fish.

Perhaps J Foster will enlighten us as to how this figure was calculated?
